I joined a Spanish group in London because 4 years of college spanish and 1 semester of living in Spain seem to have gone down the drain and I want to try to get at least some of that back. The photos above are from our first meeting in Trafalgar Square where it just happened to be Holland Appreciation Day in London. The best part of London is that it is truly a metropolis so there are always random celebrations of other cultures. Not just St. Patty's Day or Cinco de Mayo. Anyway, Holland Day was AWESOME. Sipping Champagne on the big steps in Trafalgar on a sunny day speaking broken spanish is almost as good as hanging out with people you actually know :) I called the girl in the photo LETI for like 2 hours to find out finally her name is BETTY. Doesn't Leti just sound more like a Spanish name?
Giovanna, a girl from my church group, has taken on the daunting task of being my intercambio. We get together and talk in Spanish for an hour and English for the second hour. It tends to be more spanish then english and it is at times, most times, PAINFUL but hopefully it's helping the both of us improve our foreign languages. For the most part now, I seem to just be speaking Spanglish... No photo of G to share yet, but imagine a tall Colombian woman who is constantly saying "Natasha, no tienes sentido." It essentially means you're not making any sense.
Being "in between jobs" have provided the opportunity to engage in such fun hobbies!
xoxxo,
N
